What to Cover When:Which blooms need to be covered at which temperature!

If you've spent the fall and winter tending a cut flower garden, you definitely don't want to lose those plant babies in any freezes!
Below you'll find the plants that I cover at what thresholds!
And when in doubt, cover! You'll never regret it - just make sure the frost cloth comes off on sunny days at any temperature above freezing! You don't want to cook your plant babies!
01. 30-32
30-32 degrees
FRESIA
These gorgeous blooms can't handle ANY chill whatsoever.
I am spending this season perfecting them and will have bulbs for sale Fall of 2025, but beware, they are the MOST needy plants (but the scent is WORTH IT!)
02. 27-30
27-30 degrees

FOXGLOVE
While didiscus and FMN are new to the farm this year - nasturtium and foxglove notoriously die back in even the slightest of cold weather

4. Never Cover
Never Cover
These plants LIKE the cold:
ROSES
TULIPS
DAFFODILS
MUSCARI
HYACINTH
SNAPDRAGONS
VIOLAS
PANSIES
POPPIES
If you see something here that you aren't sure about - I'm always team better safe than sorry! Covering takes just a few minutes (albeit very cold minutes) but will likely prevent crop loss.
If you do sustain freeze damage, wait two weeks to remove any plants - and cut them right at the soil level - you never know what will regenerate from the roots!
